Dearest reader,
This morning, I was awakened by the most delightful aroma of breakfast wafting through the air, a gentle reminder that a new day’s adventures awaited. I glanced at the clock—7:23 AM! We were to depart for Casablanca at precisely 8:00 AM. Realizing I was running a little late, and that my roommates still lay peacefully asleep, I swiftly roused them and hastily packed some breakfast to go for two of them. As we hurried about the house, my gracious host mother, Hajiba, kindly showed me how to properly cover my head in preparation for our visit to the mosque.
In less than thirty minutes, we were all ready to embark on our journey from Meknes to Casablanca. The mountain vistas were truly breathtaking, the kind that stir the soul — yet, as the scenery unfolded, my enthusiasm waned somewhat. My congested sinuses, combined with the high altitude, proved quite challenging; I soon felt a sharp, piercing pain in my ear. I took some pain medication and decided to rest my eyes during the remainder of the trip.

“Ok, everyone, we’ve arrived in Casablanca!” Oussama announced cheerfully. The first sight that caught my eye upon opening them was the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, an architectural marvel — iconic and inspiring. We enjoyed a guided tour, during which I learned that it is the largest mosque in Morocco and ranks as the third largest in the entire world. I was fascinated to discover that laser beams are directed towards Mecca from the minaret, helping worshippers orient themselves perfectly during prayer.
After the tour, we returned to the bus and set out to explore further and enjoy lunch independently. I dined with a small group at a charming restaurant beside the beach. The view was enchanting—the salty air, the vibrant colors of the surroundings, and the lively hum of conversations created such a captivating atmosphere. I savored the finest chicken and mushroom pasta I have ever tasted; truly, it was a delight.

Later, we gathered at the designated meeting spot to begin our city tour. Our guide, whose name I am yet to learn, is a kind and knowledgeable local of Casablanca. The tour combined gentle walks with bus rides, taking us through the King’s residence and the royal palace. Our next stop was the Church of Notre Dame de Lourdes—a place of exquisite beauty, bursting with color and serenity. During our visit, the choir was rehearsing, and I couldn’t help but think—God, they sounded like angels. Tears welled in my eyes; I wished my dear parents could be here to witness such a divine place. I paused for a moment to pray quietly before we continued our exploration.
Our final destination was the charming Hubous neighborhood, where we learned about the local lifestyle and traditions that make Casablanca so unique.

Later in the day, we checked into a stunning hotel, alive with vibrant colors and artistic decor. After settling in, I ventured into the medina with some companions, where I purchased a beautiful notebook and two pins to add to my cherished collection.
I ended the day with a delectable dinner at a local Spanish restaurant, enjoying flavorful dishes, refreshing drinks, and charming live music. Now, I am penning this blog from the comfort of my hotel bed, feeling a bit exausted and my ear still aching, yet immensely grateful for today’s rich experiences.
Yours truelly,
Lady Ariana M
