This morning we had like a "pancake cake" for breakfast which is pancake batter with a mixture of peanuts, pumpkin seeds, and cashews topped with cranberries and apples. It was sweet, delicious and complemented with a fresco which is pineapple juice. After breakfast I finished getting ready to head to school. As we walked to class, I was able to enjoy it by taking my time and being able to appreciate my surroundings, especially the mountains.

When we arrived at the ULatina we had our second lecture about "Understanding Global Issues" and we did two activities. In the first one we had to imagine 100 people on Earth and fill in twelve pie charts with percentages from the

different categories provided depending on how we think it would look like. On the second activity we had to compare and contrast by writing down next to each identity category what we consider would be common or acceptable in society and what we consider not as common or widely acceptable in society. Afterwards we had a small debrief on the lecture, activities we did, global issues in Costa Rica, how people that don't speak Spanish try to learn the language, and how people that speak Spanish help those that don't.

Once we finalized the lecture with the debrief it was lunch time. For lunch, my mama tica packed me a big empanada de chicharron which is a pork belly empanada, a slice of "pancake cake", and cranberry tea. Since I finished my lunch early I was able to videocall my mom and tell her about how great the trip is going. When I finished, I headed to the classroom because it was bingo time. We played three rounds of bingo and the winners received prizes and after the second game Angie gave us some keychains as gifts.

After playing bingo I decided to head home alone to relax and talk to my parents and friends back in Indiana. When I got home, I laid on the sofa in the back porch and was able to watch the rain and take a small nap. Then I went to my room to sleep and when I woke up, my mama tica had made dinner. She made rice, beans, zucchini, and steak we ate together and finally I showered and called it a day.

I am really looking forward to the rest of the trip!

Till next time,

Elizabeth Sierra-Mendez
