Today was our last Friday in Costa Rica, and it was a busy one. We started out by arriving at our bus stop at 7:00 a.m. From that point, we traveled about an hour and a half to Poás Volcano and witnessed the magnificent volcano crater. From the picture you can see a green liquid in the bottom. Our amazing tour guide, Angie, explained that this is due to the sulphuric acid, which also causes the intense smell of eggs. Thankfully the smell didn’t deter us from this breathtaking view. Once we walked back to the main entrance, we all enjoyed walking through their gift shop, and some of us, including me, bought some delicious coffee and pastries from their cafe.
While on our way to our next stop, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, we stopped at a small store known for its fresh strawberries, cheese, and wine. Since the drinking age is 18 in Costa Rica, many of us enjoyed the free samples of cheese and wine given to us by the locals. From there, many of us bought a variety of their products.
Once we were on our way again to La Paz Waterfall Gardens, we occupied our time on the bus by playing a game. The game required everyone to submit two songs, a favorite and a guilty-pleasure song. From there, we played each song and had to guess who picked out each song. This game produced a lot of finger-pointing, full-on performances, and laughs.

Once we arrived at the Waterfall Gardens, and our giggles subsided, we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Soon after, we were allowed to explore the grounds, which took several hours. This is due to the many exhibits they had, which allowed us to see; sloths, monkeys, birds, butterflies, cats, frogs, snakes, and the several waterfalls they have. These exhibits were astounding, but I had some reservations about the animal enclosures. That was until I learned that this place was an animal sanctuary because each rescued animal was there because they would not survive the wild. This piece of information allowed me to feel much better about the situation.

After the animal exhibits, we struggled through the many flights of stairs we climbed to enjoy the waterfalls, but we all agreed that it was completely worth it. We enjoyed the magnificent power of each waterfall and took many pictures! When we finished exploring, we headed back to each of our homestays for the night. From there, many people continued the day and went out for the night or went to the movies. Although we were all sad to have our last Friday in Costa Rica, we were glad it was such a great and memorable day!
