San Jose Day Trip!

Daniela R.

Hello everyone, it is our first Friday in Costa Ricaaa!! Today we all woke up bright and early to take a trip to San Jose! We used the public train to ride to downtown San Jose where we visited various places and enjoyed wonderful food!

On the train, I loved that I was able to see incredible views from both sides. When we got off the train we were able to be in the train station. We all started walking toward the center of San Jose. Angie, our tour guide, explained to us some of the history of the city and how the moment combined various countries surrounding Costa Rica. Next, we walked through Calle 17 where I saw various amazing art pieces. This street is dedicated to artists from Costa Rica to show their artwork. I love that the country encourages people to be part of a bigger project so people passing by from the country or out can enjoy them.

The next stop was El Museo Nacional de Costa Rica, which was a high point of the day. The first thing we saw was a beautiful butterfly garden. Even though I wasn’t able to see many butterflies I enjoyed the experience of seeing different plants. Then through the museum, I continued to learn more about the culture of Costa Rica. This included the different indigenous peoples from a wide range of tribes and how colonization impacted them. Something that stood out to me from the museum was how big the impact of women was on the country! I was able to learn about the different dances that were celebrated at parties and in festivals. Another thing that stood out to me was the satellite of Costa Rica from space!

After the museum, my peers and I enjoyed a very yummy lunch at Spoons! Their drinks were incre

dible! I had natural lemonade. For my main course, I had fried fish with mashed potatoes and vegetables. After a yummy lunch, we then walked a couple more blocks to the Mercado de San Jose! In the mercado, we tried helado de Lolo Mora. Even though the ice cream wasn’t my favorite it was very refreshing.

Our last stop before we returned back to Heredia was the national theater! I loved the artwork present in the theater and how the tour guides were interactive. I would love to come back and see a show! I can’t wait for another day in Costa Rica!

With Love,

Daniela Rodriguez
