Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog today on day 2 in Monteverde. I woke up around 5 in the morning to watch the sunrise across the beautiful view from the hotel. After meeting up with everyone, I enjoyed a delicious breakfast which included pancakes, papaya with yogurt, and granola. After breakfast, we got back on the bus with everyone and headed to Selvatura.

My breakfast!

Selvatura is a park in Monteverde that has different types of activities for all types of people. Our group was fortunate to participate in zip lining! I was getting nervous butterflies in my stomach. Although I was scared, I was able to make the most of the experience. After I was assisted in putting on the gear, we headed to a high point in the park where we first were made aware of how to zip line and what to do if we got stuck. After the introduction, we were able to start the first line out of 13. Over time, I was getting excited about the adventure rather than how scary it was. Thanks to my amazing partner Sami on the longest cable, I was able to enjoy such beautiful views. I was able to see the clouds in the mountains and all types of plants. Before the last cable, if you wanted to participate in a Tarzan swing which is exactly what you think. One would jump from a platform and swing back and forth. Almost all my peers were able to do the Tarzan swing which is something I wasn’t planning on doing but I am happy I did!

The last cable was my favorite because the total length was about 1 kilometer which was also a partner cable. I honestly felt like I was flying! I feel so lucky to have been able to participate in this activity, especially in such a beautiful place.

Me, Sami and Karla ready for the zip line!

After the 3 hours of adrenaline, we all headed to lunch where I had a chicken sandwich, and some pineapple pizza. Then it was time for free time! Some of my peers and I headed to the pool. The pool honestly felt like it came from a movie because of how beautiful it was.

After the pool, it was time for our night hike! The night hike was about a 2-hour walk in the Monteverde area where we were able to see all types of animals. Our guide was able to talk about how the land was his grandpa's farm so he learned all about the animals and paths. Some of the animals we could see included a 2 toed sloth, a hairy Mexican porcupine, and a tarantula. I had no expectations for the hike, but they were exceeded!

Me after the tarzan swing.

This is a tarantula through a telescope from the night hike.

After the hike, we headed to dinner where I had soup and an Argentinean steak! Very yummy!

I can’t wait to see what this trip has in store for us!

With much love,

Daniela Rodriguez
